The first album from Final Thursday Press celebrates the music of Eddie Bowles (1884-1984). Bowles learned to play guitar in New Orleans alongside
Louis Armstrong and Kid Ory, and he lived most of his life in Cedar
Falls, Iowa. All recordings on this album were made when between 1976 and 1982, when Eddie Bowles
was in his 90s, and many have not been heard since. You can listen to
the album online for free (click HERE or on the album cover). It is also available on all major music platforms and streaming services including Spotify. Click HERE to check out the full album liner notes.
Support for this project was provided by the University of Northern Iowa, the Cedar Falls Community Foundation's Saul and Joan Diamond Arts & History Fund, Humanities Iowa and the National Endowment for the Humanities. Album cover photo by Margo Newmark Rosenbaum.
